Ingredients
- 300g pasta (penne, rigatoni, fusilli—any shape you prefer)
- 500ml tomato sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 200g shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a mix)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- Olive oil (for sautéing)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional Add-ins:
- Chicken (for a chicken pasta bake)
- Tuna (for a tuna pasta bake)
- Vegetables (for a vegetarian version): zucchini, bell peppers, spinach, etc.
Instructions
Cook the Pasta
Boil the pasta in salted water according to package instructions, but remove it while it’s still al dente (slightly undercooked). Drain and set aside.Prepare the Sauce
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until soft and fragrant. If you’re making a chicken pasta bake, add diced chicken at this stage and cook until browned. For a vegetarian option, add vegetables like zucchini or bell peppers and sauté until softened. Pour in the tomato sauce and season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for a few minutes.Combine Pasta and Sauce
Toss the cooked pasta into the skillet and stir until well coated with the sauce. For a tuna pasta bake, gently fold in the drained tuna at this stage, being careful not to break it up too much.Add Cheese and Bake
Transfer the pasta and sauce mixture to a baking dish. Generously sprinkle shredded cheese over the top. For extra cheesiness, feel free to add more than suggested. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.Serve and Enjoy
Let the dish cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the melty, flavorful pasta bake with a crunchy topping if desired.

- Cheese: Use a combination of mozzarella, cheddar, or add Parmesan for sharpness. For a tangy twist, try goat cheese.
- Protein: Swap tuna for cooked chicken, or go vegetarian by adding more vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini.
- Breadcrumb Topping: For a crispy topping, sprinkle breadcrumbs mixed with olive oil and garlic powder over the cheese before baking.
